Pediatric Sports-Fitness Special Interest Group

Welcome to the Pediatric Sports and Fitness Special Interest Group (PSFSIG).

This special interest group of APTA was formed in 1999 as a collaboration between the Pediatric Section and the Sports Section of APTA. The Pediatric Sports and Fitness Special Interest Group aims to be a nationally recognized forum and resource for education, training and research regarding optimal care delivery to pediatric and adolescent athletes. In reaching this goal the SIG will focus on three things:

  1. Prevention, examination, and intervention of impairments in the child who participates in sports.
  2. Training and fitness guidelines for the child who participates in sports.
  3. Training, fitness and sports guidelines for the child with a disability.

Avenues to reach this goal will include course offerings, presentations, publications and interactive formats.

Most SIG activities and meeting occur at APTA's Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) that is held annually. The business and planning meeting for the PSFSIG is held in conjunction with CSM and is co-hosted by the Pediatric Section and Sports Section. We try to have an educational presentation on topics related to the SIG at least every other year at CSM. Any suggestion for programming, speakers, or topics for the SIG can be sent to me directly at [email protected].
